                NEWS BITS
Customer Appreciation Day!
This summer Huntermark Farm will hold its first annual customer appreciation day.  Activities will include: a delicious meal, a bonfire marshmallow roast, having your ride videotaped, edited, and posted on YouTube with links from our site.  Pictures captured from the video will also be posted on our web site.  There will be drawings with great prizes and some funny prizes.  Since this is the first year, we are especially open to suggestions for more fun that can be had at the barn!

Horse Show Help Wanted
We have a few positions that still need to be filled for the first show of the MIHJA season - May 2010.  Some are paid positions (although they don't exactly pay a lot) and some are volunteer.  We prefer that the paid jobs be given to parents, friends, or relatives of people showing and their wages will be applied to the rider's entry fees.

Huntermark Café: (both days)  The Café person should be courteous, trustworthy, able to make coffee and prepare food, and good with money/simple math.  Since cash is involved, we would strongly prefer an adult.  You will have to do some set-up in the morning and a little bit of tear-down at the end of the day.  You will need to be there all day both days from 8:00 until the show's over.  The café person can not keep money from the till or reimburse themselves for food they brought - their food is donated just like everybody else's.  This job pays $40/day plus free food for you (not your friends or family).
Videographer: (both days)  The videographer has to be someone with a steady hand who is willing to learn and practice with the camera, use the zoom in/zoom out, and keep the horse and rider in frame.  The camera will be supplied with a fresh battery and blank tape.  This is a volunteer position, but there isn't actually that much work involved.  We'd like you to be available from 11-3 but there will probably be less than 20 minutes of work altogether.

                          OLD NEWS

 Congratulations, Maggie!

Maggie won the 2009 Winter Equitation Classic Finals with her new best friend Monty!

Saturday, August 23rd was the day that Monty came to Huntermark, and just a few days later he had already found his new best friend - Maggie Ben-Nun!  Monty is a handsome 15.1 hand Tobiano gelding with beautiful dark bay markings.  Maggie has also decided on a show name for him - Featured Artist).  He will be staying on as an Academy horse!  Hooray!  Maggie is showing Monty over 2'6"-2'9" courses and is doing so well that she is the Winter Series High Point Rider!  see: www.HuntermarkFarm.com/0809points.htm Super duper congratulations to Maggie for finally finding her perfect match!

Ellen Reeder went to
IHJA"A" Circuit Medal Finals!

Ellen Reeder qualified for the 2008 IHJA "A" Medal Finals showing her horse, Eligible Bachelor, at Ledges last winter.  She won a gold (automatically qualifying her) and a silver. When she went to Medal Finals in September it was with Valentino, a tall dark and handsome fellow from Maffitt Lake Farm.  The pair only had a week to get to know each other, but they got it done under pressure.  They were 8th out of 28 in the Medal Finals Warm-up!  To get a ribbon at the "A" Circuit Medal Finals your first time qualifying is an amazing accomplishment!  Way to go, Ellen!

    High Point Equitation Rider Announced
The winner of the 2008 Stephanie VanDeWoestyne Memorial High Point Equitation award is Summer Lawrence riding Rock Solid.  This award is earned by the rider with the most points in equitation classes in all the summer shows held by Huntermark combined.  This includes the MIHJA recognized and USEF recognized shows.  Summer's name will be engraved on the traveling trophy on display in the Club Room.

Bargain Thursdays Find Huntermark on facebook!
As most of you know, the rate for a lesson with Jan have been $20 for a group, $25 for a private, and $30 for prolonged private lessons since 2002, while the rate for all other instructors is $16 for a group, $20 for a private, and $25 for prolonged private lessons.  Since she started teaching the regular Academy (non-boarder) lessons in October, there has been a sort of "grandfather clause" to allow the students who are accustomed to paying $16 to keep doing so.  Starting April 1st all students will pay the Jan rate when they take a lesson with Jan.  For the students who do not want to pay Jan's rate, Rachel will be teaching on Thursday nights at the Academy rate.  Neither instructor will be offended if students change their regular lesson day to or from a Thursday.        Huntermark has joined the 21st century and created a Facebook page!   It's a public profile so search it out the next time you're on.  If you add Huntermark Farm as a friend you'll get updates from a status change before horse shows and whenever new results are posted after the show.  The profile also includes a Horsebook containing some of the horses for sale.  Huntermark Farm is also part of several groups including MIHJA - Midstate Illinois Hunter Jumper Association and there's even a group called Huntermark Farm Barn Groupies!  If you don't have a Facebook page yet, you might want to go to www.facebook.com and give it a try - it's pretty fun.

Shows at Huntermark are now recognized by
the American Paint Horse Association
Thanks to Darla Bridges getting it put together, all of the shows held at Huntermark in 2009 (with the exception of January, before it was signed and sealed) will be recognized by the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) as a Paint Alternative Competiton or PAC.  For more information, see this page of the APHA web site.  The horse must be registered with the APHA in order for the credits to count.  The owner is responsible for filling out their own paperwork and bringing it to the show secretary to sign.  At that time they must also present the horse's APHA registration papers.

             DON'T FORGET
   Pictures, Pictures
I am always looking for new pictures of students and/or horses in and around the barn.  They don't have to be show pictures and they don't have to be jumping or showing.  I am particularly looking for pictures of school horses of the past, pictures from awards banquets and Equitation Classic Finals that have pictures missing (see: www.HuntermarkFarm.com/results.htm ), students that aren't pictured on the Our Students page (see: www.HuntermarkFarm.com/meet_the_students.htm ),
and Halloween classes that have pictures missing (see: www.HuntermarkFarm.com/Halloween.htm ) but I would love to see whatever you've got.  When you send lots of pictures, please use this e-mail: HuntermarkFarm@hotmail.com

Huntermark Stuff   Barn help wanted
Long and short sleeved T-shirts, Polo shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies (zip-up and pull-over), polar fleece pullovers, sweatshirt-lined jackets, ball caps, saddle pads, and more are all available in team colors - it's called Huntermark Stuff!  Several orders are made throughout the year.  Talk to Rachel about ordering yours.  For prices and further information, click here.

We're always looking for help filling vacant spots on the "Chore Calendar", especially on weekends and the morning of the first Monday of the month.  The chores are not difficult - there are very few stalls to clean and once it stays nice out there will be no stalls to clean.  You must be at least 13 years old and able to lead the horses competently.  Since there isn't much to do, it won't take much time.  Since there aren't many shifts that need to be covered, you will not get big paychecks, therefore this could not be anyone's sole source of income.  If you are looking for a little bit of extra spending money and are willing to help out, talk to Rachel or Jan.
